Ultra-durable SMART Outdoor Signage Takes a Beating

Samsung’s SMART Outdoor Signage offers an all-purpose solution for businesses looking to display vivid visuals in even the most demanding environments. Backed by an ultra-durable design, SMART Outdoor Signage is built to rebuff the typical wear and tear associated with both inclement weather and life in bustling urban jungles, allowing businesses greater versatility to broadcast their stories and create meaningful impressions.

Behind the sleek contours and svelte, 85mm frame are certifiably rugged specs. SMART Outdoor Signage is IP56-certified dust- and water-resistant and designed to deliver crisp visuals in demanding situations. Also, an anti-Infrared-coat cuts off heat from outside the panel while a water-proof cooling fan helps regulate temperatures, allowing the display to operate in a wide temperature range of -30˚C to 50˚C.

The Magic Glass screen features a 5,000 to 1 contrast ratio, reflection reduction technology and 2,500-nit brightness, completing a design that ensures that your visuals are not only physically reinforced, but optimally displayed at a quality validated by TÜV Rheinland.

Samsung’s SMART Outdoor Signage may be rooted in utility, but it also fosters great creativity. Such versatility in design offers businesses more unique entry points to display their content, and creates more opportunities to sync messaging with the pulse of the city around it. The result is an easy-to-install, all-in-one creative solution from the world’s leading display and signage company that allows your business’s visuals to make a mark on their environment, and not vice versa.

Adversign Media

Adversign Media Provides Samsung Digital Signage for Digital Advertising Spaces in Shopping Malls and Eye-Catching Displays Made Simple

In the future you will not need a great deal of equipment to implement digital signage: just a monitor and software for controlling and reproducing content. Adversign Media provides digital signage for professional installations in shopping malls, such as the system installed in the Vennehof shopping mall in Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia. The specialist provider used Samsung large format displays (LFD) that offer high image quality and elegant design. What makes the system even more convenient to use in the Vennehof shopping mall is the innovative System-on-Chip (SoC) technology. This digital signage solution also provides an all-in-one monitor and player.

Advertising, information and signposting systems in shopping malls, such as the latest offers in the shoe shop, the spring sale at the optician and the parking signage, are classic digital signage applications. As shoppers are standing on escalators or sitting having an ice cream, they can be informed, entertained and alerted to special offers. The comprehensive installation Adversign Media implemented in the Vennehof Borken mall was on behalf of the owners ITG (Immobilien Treuhand GmbH). The provider used a total of 12 Samsung ME Series LFDs for this project. The SoC monitors can display content using Samsung’s MagicInfo® range of content management systems (CMSs). However, the monitors are also compatible with software from partner companies such as Adversign Media.

Samsung Solution and Benefits

Digital Advertising Spaces Increase Turnover

Under a leasing arrangement, retailers in the shopping mall – including bakers, hairdressers, fashion outlets, jewelers and sports stores – can draw shopper attention to current special offers on the monitors installed in their vicinity. Adversign Media not only provides the Samsung monitors, but the viewneo software, a CMS designed especially for SoC technology and suitable for both small and large networks. “We thus not only provide the shopping mall tenants with the means of publicizing their current offers, we also enrich the advertising through our information offering – editorial messages, local news, weather forecasts, etc.,” as Albert Roelen, Managing Director of Adversign Media, summarizes the advantages. “We provide shoppers with added value, enabling them to keep up to date with current events while out shopping.”

Using the viewneo software, current advertising community offers can be configured on the basis of HTML5 templates. The regularly updated editorial content is loaded through Contboxx, Adversign Media’s message portal. To provide a suitable platform for both advertising and content, Adversign Media replaced the old monitors with new Samsung LFDs and positioned them in strategic places around the shopping mall.

“Plug and Play” with Samsung System-on-Chip Displays

In the course of this upgrade, the new SoC displays were deployed for the first time. With SoC, Samsung provided a digital signage platform that integrated the media player in the display unit itself. “The great advantage of this solution is that you no longer need any hardware for an external player and the media content and the control functions can reside in the cloud,” explains Albert Roelen. “As a result, the installation is as simple as can be: you attach a monitor to the wall, plug it in and connect it to the Internet. And that’s it.” No server structure has to be purchased and set up. Apart from the displays, there are no devices or cables that need to be stored or concealed. Monitor control is also already integrated into the display. Consequently, installation time and the cost of the entire system are lower than without SoC technology. The LFDs can be positioned flexibly at any location in the shopping mall so that they are within easy sight of passers-by

Simple Software for Flexible Digital Signage Systems

Adversign Media developed viewneo especially for applications where each monitor cannot be controlled individually by a USB stick. The software is provided as cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS). This means that the software is not installed in the shopping mall but on a server operated by Adversign Media. The content for the digital signage network can be uploaded and controlled at the Vennehof Borken mall through a web interface. What is particularly streamlined about the Adversign Media solution is the direct connection between the digital signage software and the Contboxx editorial content message portal.

“What was most important to us was that the software would be adequate for professional use, yet simple to operate,” is how Albert Roelen describes viewneo. “Because we wanted even small entrepreneurs such as bakers and butchers to be able to operate it without extensive training.” The software has virtually unlimited scalability, so it can be used by anyone from retailers to global corporations, either as SaaS or on a server in a corporate network.

Successful Cooperation

The decision to use Samsung LFDs was made because of the good cooperation with the manufacturer and the high quality of the monitors. The new SoC displays are not only larger than the old screens, they also provide better image quality, clearly, brightly and with greater detail, as well as flexibly. In addition, the displays are suitable for narrow spaces and include a pivot function that allows them to be turned 90 degrees. Today, news and advertising signage can be displayed on a monitor wherever a static board was once used.

The owners of the shopping mall, ITG, and the stores benefit from the higher quality of the visitor and shopping experience in the Vennehof Borken mall, as proven by surveys of passers-by. “What attracted us to the digital signage system is its innovative, elegant design that fits perfectly into our modern, inviting shopping malls,” summarizes Stefan Geisler from ITG. “Not being IT specialists, we benefit particularly from the simplicity of the application that enables us to respond to the wishes of our tenants quickly and flexibly.”

The transformed arena showcases over ten times more LED video than before, including the NBA’s first 360-degree video screen. It’s also the first arena bowl to be outfitted with HD-quality, 6mm LED video display technology, which will allow for the best fan viewing experience in any NBA venue. Now, no matter where fans are sitting in the arena, they’ll feel like they have court side seats.

Technology Highlights

  • The first continuous 360-degree video screen in the NBA
  • The first arena bowl outfitted with HD-quality, 6mm LED video display technology
  • A center-hung main video board with a massive 4,477 square feet of active video display, making it one of the three largest in an NBA venue
  • Four massive corner video boards, plus upper and lower fascia displays

Customer Needs

In order to provide the best possible experience for fans, the State Farm Arena – home to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks – decided to undertake a roofline to baseline, $192.5 million renovation. As part of the transformation, the team wanted to expand on its previous digital display footprint to allow fans to feel totally immersed in the game, no matter where they were sitting. To achieve this goal, the Hawks turned to Prismview, a subsidiary of Samsung that specializes in products designed to enhance the fan experience.

Massive Center-hung Video board with NBA’s Largest 360-Degree Display
The centerpiece of the arena’s renovation is their new center-hung video board. It includes a massive 4,477 square feet of high-definition video display, making it almost 4,000 square feet largest than the previous center-hung video board and one of the top three largest in an NBA venue. The 360-degree screen wraps over 160 feet around and measures almost 28 feet high. The center-hung structure also features two additional displays mounted in its interior, which offer an additional 360 square feet of active video viewing area. The center-hung video board is not only the NBA’s first 360-degree, continuous video screen, but it’s also the first arena bowl to feature HD-quality, 6mm LED video display technology to ensure true-to-life colors and dynamic details.

Fully Immersive with Ten Times the Screen Square Footage
The arena is truly an immersive digital experience, featuring over 12,000 square feet of Samsung SMART LED signage – ten times more than the old arena’s configuration. In addition to the center-hung video board, the Hawks installed more than 20 additional LED displays throughout the arena, including four massive corner video boards and upper and lower fascia displays. With more than 30.42 million individual LED pixels, these displays deliver crisp, clear content throughout the arena so that fans feel like they’re part of the action, regardless of where they’re sitting.

Upgraded Players Club Experience
The arena’s new Players Club, located on behind the team benches, is the first premium club in the NBA with fine-pitch LED video displays in 2.5mm pixel pitch. With a screen that measures nearly 9 feet tall and 32 feet wide, the space offers the energy of a sports bar with the exclusive experience of up-close views into the player tunnel and the postgame press conference area.

Industry-Leading Results with Samsung Partnership
When the State Farm Arena and the Atlanta Hawks were looking for a partner to help bring their vision of a dynamic, digital stadium to life, they knew Prismview and Samsung had the experience to make it happen. Samsung is an industry-leader when it comes to LED signage and has provided groundbreaking custom signage solutions to stadiums and arenas all around the world. The Hawks worked closely with Samsung throughout the design process to figure out the best solution for the fans.

Vibrant and Immersive Fan Experience
A huge part of the sports industry – basketball included – is the fan experience at games. State Farm Arena’s new large-scale, high-definition video displays will enhance the in-game experience for Hawks fans and ensure that they will feel like they are sitting in the front row no matter where they are in the arena.

Samsung and Prismview worked with the Atlanta Hawks to transform their home court into a cutting-edge arena that offers a top-notch fan experience. The massive number of screens and amount of display square footage – coupled with Samsung’s industry-leading picture quality -lets fans feel truly immersed in the game. The new center-hung video board featuring the NBA’s first 360-degree LED screen helps ensure that this iconic venue is well positioned to keep up with the rapidly evolving sports entertainment industry.

Breached Records More Than Doubled in H1 2018, Reveals Breach Level Index

Break Down of the 2018 Breach Level Index Stats:

• 18,525,816 records compromised every day
• 771,909 records compromised every hour
• 12,865 records compromised every minute
• 214 records compromised every second

Data breaches had a field day in 2018. According to the Breach Level Iindex, a database compiled by Gemalto to track publicly reported data breaches disclosed in news media reports, 2018 is one of the only years where more than two billion records were compromised in publicly disclosed data breaches. The only other year to do so was 2013 due to the exposure of all three billion Yahoo users’ accounts.

Gemalto has analyzed the Breach Level Index during the first half of 2018 and the findings are truly staggering. In just six months, the system tracked more than 3.3 billion breached data files. This figure represents a 72 percent increase over the first half of 2017.

The Breach Level Index didn’t contain as many reported incidents in the first half of 2018 as it did over the same period last year with 944 reported security events during the reporting period compared to 1,162 breaches reported in the first half of 2017.

Break Down of the 2018 Breach Level Index Stats:

• Identity theft yet again the top data breach type: Identity theft was responsible for nearly four billion records compromised in the first half of the year, which represents growth of more than a thousand percent compared to the previous year. During the same time frame, the number of incidents involving identity theft decreased by a quarter.

• Malicious outsiders and accidental loss the most prevalent sources of data breach: The number of events involving malicious outsiders accounted for 56 percent and 34 percent of all data breaches, respectively.

• Social media weathered the greatest number of compromised records: Facebook wasn’t the only social giant that suffered a data breach in the first half of 2018. Twitter also experienced a security incident where a software glitch potentially exposed the login credentials of its 330 million users. In total, data breaches compromised 2.5 billion records stored by social media giants.

• Incidents in healthcare and financial services declined: The number of compromised files and data breaches decreased for both healthcare and financial services. These declines at least in part reflected the introduction of new national regulations that help regulate health data and financial transactions.

• North America led the way in publicly disclosed data breaches: This region represented more than 97 percent of data records compromised in the first half of 2018. In total, there were 559 events in the region, a number which represented 59 percent of all data breaches globally in the first half of 2018.

New Data Privacy Regulations Take Effect:

In the wake of new data protection regulations, reporting of security incidents is on the rise. Following the passage of the Australian Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) received 305 data breach notifications by the end of the second quarter of 2018. This number is nearly triple the amount of the number submitted to the OAIC for the entire 2016-2017 fiscal year. Such growth in data breach reporting will likely continue through the rest of 2018 and beyond under GDPR and New York’s Cybersecurity Requirements for Financial Services Companies.
